Unable to Update McAfee® Antivirus Signatures

Problem Description:
The update process just hangs, stuck on the 'Downloading updates' stage with the circle activity indicator just going around and around forever. Or after finishing the update you get a message "Your computer is at risk". McAfee Antivirus signatures need to be updated regularly to ensure your computer is protected from new viruses.
Affected Products:
McAfee AntiVirus Plus, McAfee Internet Security, McAfee Total Protection, McAfee All Access, McAfee Family Protection, McAfee Live Safe
Cause of the Problem:
  • Proxy server requires authentication and is blocking McAfee to be updated.
Fix for McAfee Update Problems:
Step 1 : Change your browser setting to disable proxy server
  1. If your computer is part of a home or office network that is connected to the internet with a common connection, the chances are your requests to the web are being routed through a proxy server.
  2. Open your browser say the Internet Explorer.
  3. Verify the box beside Use proxy server for your LAN is not selected.
  4. Click OK and select the Advanced tab & Click Reset.
Step 2 : Use McAfee Tool to manually update the signature files & Update your McAfee
  1. Run the MSCPRXFIX.EXE tool.
  2. Download the tool from: http://download.mcafee.com/products/licensed/cust_support_patches/MSCPRXFIX.exe.
  3. Double-click MSCPRXFIX.exe.
  4. After running the tool, restart your computer.
