Cannot Play Videos in Internet Explorer

Problem Description:
Internet Explorer and other Browsers such as Google Chrome & Mozilla Firefox play video using add-ons such Adobe Flash, Microsoft Silverlight, or Java. When you experience problems playing videos in Internet Explorer, these problems may be caused because of issues with these add-ons or other reasons.
Affected Products:
Internet Explorer for Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows Vista and Windows XP. Internet Explorer for Mac Operating System. Applies to Internet Explorer 7, 8, 9, 10, 11 and beyond.
Cause of the Problem:
  • Latest Windows Updates not installed.
  • Website video not compatible with latest version of IE.
  • Add-ons required for video not installed or enabled.
  • Latest Java, Silverlight, or Flash Add On not installed.
  • Active X filtering turned on.
Instructions for Fixing Video Playback Problem :
Step 1 : Install Latest Windows Updates
  1. Running Windows Update can often correct problems by replacing out-of-date files, updating drivers and fixing vulnerabilities.
  2. Open the Windows Update applet from the Control Panel or by entering Windows Update in the Search Bar in the start button.
  3. Check if any important or optional updates are available. if they are, then click on Install Update.
  4. If after Installing Windows Update, you still cannot play video, then go to Step 2.
Step 2 : Check if Add-Ons are Installed or Enabled
  1. In Internet Explorer, click the Programs tab and then click Manage add-ons.
  2. Look for Shockwave Active X Control, Shockwave Flash Object, Java Plug-in, QuickTime Plug-in, Windows Media Player.
  3. If the above plug-ins are not installed or add-on, then do so.
  4. If after Installing Windows Update, you still cannot play video, then go to Step 3.
Step 3 : Check if Video Runs in Compatibility Mode
  1. Some websites may have been designed for earlier versions of Internet Explorer. Switch to Compatibility View and then see whether the video plays.
  2. Tap or click the Tools button and then tap or click Compatibility View settings.
  3. Under Add this website, enter the URL of the site you want to add to the list and then tap or click Add.
  4. Run the video, if the problem is not fixed go to Step 4.
Step 4 : Install Latest Version of Java, Silverlight, Adobe Flash
  1. Most videos require the latest version of Adobe Flash, or Silverlight, or Java version. You might have to uninstall and then reinstall the add-ons to make sure the latest version is running.
  2. To install the latest version of Adobe Flash go to http://www.adobe.com/downloads.html.
  3. To install the latest version of Microsoft Silverlight go to http://www.microsoft.com/getsilverlight/Get-Started/Install/Default.aspx.
  4. To install the latest version of Java go to http://www.java.com/en/.
