Internet Explorer Home Page Hijacker Removal

Problem Description:
A browser hijacker is a type of malware designed to change your browser's settings. A browser hijacker changes your web browser's home page and default search provider to a different one without your permission. The toolbars are usually bundled with certain free programs that you normally download and install.
Affected Products:
Internet Explorer for Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows Vista and Windows XP. Internet Explorer for Mac Operating System. Applies to Internet Explorer 7, 8, 9, 10, 11 and beyond.
Cause of the Problem:
  • Browser add-on is malicious.
  • Computer infected by a virus.
Instructions for Removing Browser Hijacker :
Step 1 : Use Internet Explorer Tools to Remove Unwanted Toolbar
  1. Open Internet Explorer by clicking the Internet Explorer icon on the taskbar.
  2. Click the Tools button and then click Manage add-ons.
  3. Under Show, click All add-ons and then select the add-on you want to delete.
  4. If the add-on can be deleted, you'll see the Remove option. Click Remove and then click Close.
  5. If Add-On cannot be uninstalled go to Step 2.
Step 2 : Try Removing Malicious Toolbar with a Third-Party Tool
  1. You may need a third-party tool if the add-on has been engineered to make un-installation difficult Leading securities companies such as McAfee, Norton, Kaspersky all offer free tools to do this.
  2. Download and install a tool such as Norton Power Eraser from https://security.symantec.com/nbrt/npe.aspx
  3. Run the Scan to remove Unwanted Application Scan and follow the instructions on the screen.
  4. When un-installation is complete, restart the computer. Check if the browser hijacker has been removed. If not, Go to Step 3.
Step 3 : Reset Microsoft Internet Explorer Settings
  1. In Internet Explorer menu, click Tools and then Internet Options.
  2. Select the Advanced tab and click Reset. Again, click Reset in the Reset Internet Explorer Settings.
  3. Click Ok to exit and restart Internet Explorer for the change to take effect.
  4. If after Resetting the Internet Explorer, the problem is not fixed you need help from an expert.
