  • Outlook data files may have become corrupt, or damaged
  • Windows computer infected with a virus
Instructions for Fixing Outlook Crashing Problem :
Step 1 : Try Running Outlook without Add-Ins
  1. Try starting Outlook without add-ins to see if the problem goes away.
  2. If you are running Windows 8, swipe in from the right edge of the screen, and then tap Search.
  3. Type Run in the search box, and then tap or click Run.
  4. Type Outlook /safe, and then click OK.
  5. If the crash issue is resolved, then the problem is with Add-Ins. Remove all the add-ins, and add them one at a time to find the problematic Add-In.
  6. If issue is not resolved, go to Step 2.
Step 2 : Run the Office Configuration Analyzer Tool (OffCAT)
  1. OffCAT is diagnostic program provided by Microsoft that analyzes the current Outlook profile. The tool generates a report that highlights any known problems that it found in your profile.
  2. For any problems that are listed in the report, you are provided with a link to a Microsoft Knowledge Base (KB) article that outlines a possible fix for the problem.
  3. You can download the tool from http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=36852. Install and run the program to create the report.
  4. If the report does not point to any problems, Go to Step 3.
Step 3 : Check for and Install Latest Outlook Updates
  1. Windows Update, if configured properly, can automatically download and install latest Outlook updates.
  2. Installing important, recommended, and optional Outlook and Windows updates can often correct Outlook performance problems.
  3. Each Windows version has slightly different way to install updates. For Windows 7, Open Windows Update by typing Windows Update in Start Button search box, click Windows Update.
  4. In the left pane, click Check for updates, and then wait while Windows looks for the latest updates for your computer.
  5. If you see a message telling you that important updates are available, or telling you to review important updates, install Click Install updates.
