Internet Explorer Unresponsive Script Error

Problem Description:
All browsers, including Internet Explorer, include something called a Script Engine. This is software that reads programming instructions in the webpage that you download and executes the program. These programming instructions are written in programming languages such as Java, Active X, and others. So when you get an error such as “Unresponsive Script Error”, it essentially means that something is wrong with the Script Engine or the Script program that this Engine is trying to interpret.
Affected Products:
Internet Explorer for Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows Vista and Windows XP. Internet Explorer for Mac Operating System. Applies to Internet Explorer 7, 8, 9, 10, 11 and beyond.
Cause of the Problem:
  • A problem exists in the HTML source code of the webpage.
  • Antivirus software may be blocking the Internet Explorer ActiveX or Java scripting engine.
  • The scripting engine on your computer is corrupted or outdated.
  • Internet-related folders on your computer are corrupted.
Instructions for Fixing Script Engine Error :
Step 1 : Check if Problem with web page HTML code

  2. If you still get the Scripting Error then the problem is the Web Page HTML code. There is nothing you can do about it.
  3. If you do not get the Scripting Error then the problem is with Internet Explorer settings. Go to Step 2.
Step 2 : Verify that Active Scripting, ActiveX and Java are not Blocked
  1. If Active scripting, ActiveX and Java are blocked, it may cause this error.
  2. You can reset your Internet Explorer security settings to make sure these features are not blocked.
  3. On the Tools menu, click Internet Options. In the Internet Options dialog box, click the Security tab. Click Default Level.
  4. If the problem still persists go to Step 3.
Step 3 : Remove all temporary Internet files
  1. If the size of the temporary Internet files folder becomes too large, some display problems may occur when you open webpages.
  2. On the Tools menu, click Internet Options. Click the General tab. Under Browsing History, click Delete.
Step 3 : Check if Antivirus Software is Not Blocking Scripts
  1. ActiveX controls and Java programs blocked may result in the script not running or taking too long.
  2. If you do not have an antivirus software installed then this is not an issue.
  3. If you do have one installed, you need to check the firewall or security software setting to check if the scripting engine is not being blocked.
